FAQ: Tec-Shield | FAQ:
Teclon-50
A. Tec-Shield
is a biodegradable, water-dilutable, high temperature, synthetic
lubricant; formulated as a stable emulsion (mixes and says in water).
A. Tec-Shield is used on Shovels, Rakes, Pavers, Rollers,
Squeegees, Brooms, Material Transfer Vehicles (rubberized belts)
Truck beds, Mauls, Lutes, Chip Sealing Equipment and any place where
you used to use diesel fuel (as a solvent or release agent).

of Asphalt Release Lubricants.

A. Tec-Shield's lubricants have a distillation range
from 600 to 800 degrees Fahrenheit. Hot mix asphalt at 295 to 350
degrees cooks-off water diluents only. Then Tec-Shield removes old
asphalt and plates out on the surface, preventing asphalt from sticking
any further. You've got to re-treat these surfaces, but a lot less
than you had to re-treat with diesel fuel.

A. Dilute Tec-Shield
8 to 1 with water for tools and equipment, 20 to 1 on truck beds
and a minimum of 20 to 1 on Rubber Tire Rollers. We have Sprayers
and Dispensers available.

A. Price
per gallon does not reflect actual cost. Tec-Shield is shipped in
concentrated form. Our field experience, coupled with that of many
Paving Superintendents, shows that three gallons of Tec-Shield diluted
with water at a ten to one ratio is worth five gallons of diesel
fuel. The reason is that diesel fuel is volatile and evaporates
quickly, especially in the heated conditions of laying asphalt.

Naturally, contractors are concerned about price per
gallon when purchasing a release agent. However, price per gallon
does not always reflect cost. Some $12.00 release agents are less
costly to use than a $3.00 release agents and do a better job. The
best way to determine the lowest end cost of a release agent is
to calculate how many tons of asphalt a 55-gallon drum or a 275-gallon
tote tank will yield. If you have to put a new 55-gallon drum on
the spray rack every time you run 7 to 8,000 tons of asphalt, or
a new tote tank every 50,000 tons, you could be spending too much
money. Average tonnage from a 55-gallon drum of Teclon-50 is 30,000
tons and 140,000 tons from a 275-gallon (256 net) tote tank. This
tonnage is obtained by using our standard Hydro 340, drum mounted
spray system. We find this to be unmatched in the industry.

Teclon-50 will not freeze in concentrate. It has a
pour point of minus 65 degrees (F). In can be stored outside in
the winter months, so long as it is protected from water entering
the drum. Many of our customers use heavy plastic sheeting.

We use Hydro 340 drum mounted siphoning system. It
only requires water pressure to operate. No electricity or air compressor
is needed. The system comes with 13 metering tips. According to
your water pressure and distance to the spray rack, we will recommend
water hose dimensions and tip size to insure accurate dilution.
Also, we provide you with this system free of charge. Tec-Team has
other systems available such as timer systems and automatic drive
through spray systems. Whichever of these systems you choose, rest
assured it will be the most reliable system available.

Teclon-50 has a boiling range from 600 to 800 degrees
(F), twice that of diesel fuel. With hot mix temperatures that can
exceed 300 degrees (F), evaporation is very slow with Teclon-50.
Diesel fuel is volatile and evaporates quickly; it is a 100% VOC
(volatile organic compound.). Teclon-50 is a non-VOC, it actually
plates out and bonds to metal, therefore it works better each time
you use it. Also, unlike diesel fuel, Teclon-50 is not a solvent
and dos not strip asphalt.

One of the original applications for Teclon-50 was
slat conveyor lubrication. The high temperature (600 to 800 degrees
F.) of our synthetic lubricants far exceeds that of diesel fuel.
We have reports of reduced amperage to pull the system, less wear,
smoother operation and with Teclon-50's high flash point; there
is no chance of ignition. We've had many reports of explosions because
of trapped diesel fuel vapors in the enclosed system. Diesel fuel's
flash point typically ranges from 100 to 120 degrees (F). Also,
once Teclon-50 is established on the conveyor system, less frequent
applications are necessary compared to diesel fuel.
